From Gardermoen to Solbukta by train, boat, and bus - updated 2025-10

Guests are often picked up at the airport, but if that doesn’t happen – whether planned or due to a “crisis” – here’s a description of how to get there using public transport:

  1. You exit the baggage reclaim hall and pass through customs. Turn right – there should be a sign saying "TRAIN" or "TOG".
  2. About 20 meters before the escalators down to the platforms, tickets are sold.
There are two types of trains: the Airport Express (Flytoget) and the regional train RExx. The latter is part of the Ruter public transport system.
The Airport Express is slightly faster and more frequent, but significantly more expensive and the ticket is only valid up to Oslo.
This guide focuses on the regional train.
Buy a ticket (*) for all the way train to 'Nationaltheatret' -> ~23 minutes by boat B10 to Nesoddtangen -> ~25 minutes by bus 560 to Solbukta.
  3. Wait on the right-hand platform for a regional train that stops at Nationaltheatret and board. Your ticket is not valid for the Airport Express on the left-hand platform.
  4. After a few stops, disembark at Nationaltheatret, take the escalator up, walk straight ahead into the metro ('T-bane') section of the station, and exit to the street level.
  5. Turn right, cross the street at the pedestrian lights, cross the tram tracks, and walk a few hundred meters gently downhill through the pedestrian zone toward the fjord. You’ll likely see or sense the fjord already from the start.
  6. Continue straight ahead along the tram tracks, and you should soon spot the ferries. They are the larger boats on the right/western side of the harbor basin near the Aker Brygge shopping center and National Museum. The sign on the boat must say something like "NESODDTANGEN".
Boats run 1–3 times per hour depending on time and day-of-week – there is always one at xx:33 (except late at night), and all boats connect with buses on Nesodden.
There is also a waiting lounge – open for long hours, but not 24/7. From inside, you can see the ferry arriving through the rear window.
  7. Only if you used the Airport Express you need to pay again when boarding the boat, otherwise not. (Unless you’ve been delayed – tickets have a time limit, but it’s quite generous at 90 minutes.)
  8. After a calm, usually fully electric crossing, you disembark at Nesodden – the ferry doesn’t turn, so you exit from the opposite end of the boat.
  9. Quickly look for the bus which includes BLYLAGET on the front sign. Don’t stop at the kiosk first – the buses leave once the driver sees no one else coming.
  10. Get off the bus at the SOLBUKTA stop – you’ll be at the intersection of Glenneveien and Korsveien, which is the usual meeting point. The next stop, SLORA, is also part of Solbukta.
(*) Use the staffed ticket counter – the machines are hard to explain. If you have to use the machines (they can 'speak' English), there is something you must know: you have to specify destinations Oslo and Ski... Ski? Yes, you have to specify a train station in the same price area as Solbukta.
